David Kanofsky, 72, passed away suddenly on June 10, 2019, from natural causes. He was living in a retirement community in Tacoma, Washington.
David grew up in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, and attended Franklin and Marshall College where he was a member of the Glee Club. He earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and served honorably in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He worked briefly at Comprehensive Mental Health in Tacoma, and for the rest of his career at Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound.
Upon retirement, he continued pursuing his many passions, including reading, traveling, chaplaincy, political activism, advocacy for trauma victims, meditation, fine arts, the great outdoors, classical music and serving on the board of the Tacoma Symphony.
He married his high school sweetheart Sallie; and they raised two children, Joseph and Annie. Annie Glickman (David) and Joe Kanofsky (Sharona) are the parents of David’s nine grandchildren: Avraham, Moshe, Menachem, Gavriel, Yaakov, Eliora, Shalom, Daniela, and Shaina; whom he loved boundlessly. His great joy was talking and visiting with them, delighting in their pursuits in music, sports and culture, and attending their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. They always knew to turn to Grampy for advice, wise counsel and a challenging game of chess.
In addition to his children and grandchildren, David’s sisters Rae (Howard) and Gayle (Dean) survive him, and he is mourned by his loving and embracing circles of cousins, nieces and nephews, colleagues and friends.
The funeral was held June 13 at the Jewish Community Cemetery in Wilmington, Delaware.
